Arbre à planches (Plank Tree) 52 cm: metal tree sculpture, numbered

A trunk turned beam, branches turned planks, and a single golden leaf, as a sign of resistance: this 52 cm metal tree sculpture tells, in a single silhouette, what we do to nature.

Created by Arson Sculptures, a French sculptor based in Drôme provençale, it is the indoor version of the monumental 4-metre Arbre à planches unveiled at the Bouchet town hall. It is produced in an edition of 20, signed and numbered.

A metal tree reduced to its productive value

Not a leaf, not a bud, except one, one that holds out, a hope… Here the tree no longer breathes, it gets cut up. What was alive becomes raw material, almost architecture, governed only by the logic of yield. And yet the silhouette keeps the grace of a tree reaching upward. That tension between beauty and exploitation is what gives the work its strength: a message you read in a single glance, and don't forget.

Rusted iron or lacquered ivory: two finishes, two characters

• Rusted iron: raw, warm, marked by time, like a bark of metal.

• Lacquered ivory: bright, graphic and clean, almost an architect's sketch.

Where to place this metal tree sculpture

On a desk, a console, a bookcase, in a living room or at the heart of a contemporary art collection, the Arbre à planches asserts its graphic line without cluttering the space. It is a powerful gift for anyone who cares about ecology, architecture or design.
