Despite his titanic efforts over the past two thousand years, Atlas, like the Earth, is exhausted. Century after century, he bears the burden of men who shape it so poorly, mistreat it, and demand ever more of it, increasing its load to the point that he decides to abandon it and its irresponsible inhabitants to their fate. Without him and Zeus, who nevertheless ensures the execution of his sentence, and since men possess no common sense, the world will collapse.
